Yes. You can file an appeal within 75 days of receiving the notice. DOT then schedules a reinspection within 180 days of your request. An appeal works best if the damage was already fixed or the sidewalk isn’t yours.

Not always. The City no longer issues violations or liens on 1 to 3 family properties when the damage is caused only by City trees. If other defects are cited too, you must still fix those. Buildings with 4 or more units remain responsible.
It can be harder. An open violation or lien may prevent the sale or refinancing of the property. It can also show up in the buyer’s title search. Tell us your closing date, and we’ll plan the repair around it.
Call 311 or use the NYC311 website with your 4 to 6 digit violation number. You can ask for the violation status, a copy of the notice or lien details. You can also send us a photo of any notice you received.
No. We only replace the flags DOT cited. If one flag is cracked, we replace that full flag, not the whole frontage. We may point out other weak spots, but you decide whether to fix them.
